Good morning fellow Cup readers.
This is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.
It is right to praise the Lord, not because we must. But because we want to do so because He deserves our praise, for without Him we are lost and forever doomed.
He is the maker of all things seen and unseen. The entire universe rests in the palm of His hand. The Lord has created everything from the single-cell amoeba to the stars
of the most distant galaxy in the universe. We praise Him because He sent His only Son, Jesus, to become one of us and to redeem us of all of our sins by His blood, shed for us on the cross. Jesus conquered sin and its ultimate consequence, death.
The Bible is full of the praises of God by its inspired writers. Perhaps the most beloved prayer of praise is the Song of Mary, his mother, while she visited Elizabeth who was carrying John the Baptist at that time. When Mary entered Elizabeth’s dwelling and Mary greeted Elizabeth, John leaped for joy in his mother’s womb. Mary responded with a praise to God, found in Luke 1:46-55:
Luke 1:46-55 New International Version (NIV)
Mary’s Song
46 And Mary said:
“My soul glorifies the Lord
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”
The Psalms are full of praises to the Lord on high. Among those praises is Psalm 121, which reads:
Psalm 121 New International Version (NIV)
A song of ascents.
1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm —
he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
So let us this day remember our Lord and Savior and thank Him for all that happens to us during the day, for everything works for the good for those who love the Lord and are called according to His purposes (Romans 8:28).
Dear friends as we remember so many prayer requests, let us remember to pray for a dear friend: Pastor Leonard Navarre’s mother-in-law passed away yesterday. Our prayers go out to the family.
Although there are no words that can fill the loss that a loved feels during this time of mourning, there is a great hope that this wonderful family abides in and by! They know they will see their granny again! Amen!
As any great pastor will do, their eyes look to heaven and remember the hope that we have in our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ and through their own pain they shine a light so bright to see the hope that they know themselves in experience!
Pastor Leonard said,
“She took her last breath at 12:15 pm mountain time
& heaven welcomed a new resident, Opal Elizabeth Dunaway known to us as Granny. Love & miss you already Granny!”
May our prayers be with the family as they wait to see her again!
Psalm 121 King James Version (KJV)
1I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
2My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
3He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
Together at the Cup, we humbly thank you for joining us! May your days be blessed with peace and joy and filled with hope that in only found in the love of God through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
Love in Christ,
Jim and Karen

Foods That Fight Inflammation
When you think of inflammation you might imagine the redness and swelling that happens when your skin is cut or scraped. Or you might think of the discomfort associated with stiff, sore joints… or aching muscles after a workout.
All of these are examples of inflammatory processes in the body. They are perfectly natural. In fact, inflammation can be an important part of the healing and recovery process.
These signs of “acute” inflammation are really easy to spot, but there’s another kind of inflammation that is much stealthier and often slips under the radar.
I’m talking about “chronic” internal inflammation. And it can lead to serious health complications, including heart disease, certain cancers, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease, among others..
What causes chronic inflammation?
Inflammation is caused by a number of lifestyle factors, including your activity level, the amount of sleep you get, the level of stress in your life, and most importantly, the foods you eat (or those you don’t).
When one or more of these lifestyle factors gets out of whack, inflammation – and therefore the risk factors for disease – goes up.
How can you protect yourself from the “silent killer”?
First, it is a good idea to find out the current level of chronic inflammation in your body. You can easily do this by getting your C-reactive protein (CRP) blood levels checked. CRP is produced by the liver and increases in response to inflammation in the body. I encourage you to discuss this simple and inexpensive test with your doctor or simply visit a testing center to have your blood drawn and tested.
Next, you should take a critical look at your diet, because the foods you eat can either trigger inflammation or stop it.
Switch to an anti-inflammatory diet by eliminating processed foods and foods known to increase inflammation in the body. These include:
-Sugar, from any source
-Commercially fried foods (like French fries, donuts, chips)
-Refined flour products (like white bread, white pasta, crackers, etc.)
-Refined oils and those rich in omega-6 (including corn oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, soybean oil, peanut oil and vegetable oils)
-Processed packaged foods (like chips and crackers containing refined oils and flours)
Make sure these powerful anti-inflammatory foods a mainstay in your diet:
-Wild Fish – Wild fish provide an abundant source of the omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA. Get these powerhouse anti-inflammatory fats by taking a high quality fish oil and consuming sustainable, safe seafood including wild salmon, mackerel and sardines.
-Pastured Animal Fat – Grass -fed beef (and dairy) contains high levels of an anti-inflammatory fat called conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). It is also an excellent source of omega-3 fats. As if you needed another reason to sink your teeth into a delicious U.S. Wellness Meats steak or raw, grass-fed cheese!
-Cruciferous Vegetables like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, bok choy, kale, cabbage and cauliflower. These foods are rich in protective and powerful compounds such as sulforaphane, which has been strongly linked to anti-inflammatory action.
-Berries – Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries cranberries, and so many other delicious berries are packed with antioxidants and phenolics – powerful inflammation fighting compounds
-Turmeric – The curcumin that is contained in this tasty spice has been shown to be even more effective against pain and inflammation than expensive (and risky) pharmaceutical drugs.
Here are some other anti-inflammatory foods to include in your diet:
-Water – pure, spring or filtered water (not stored in plastic containers but rather glass)
-Bright multi-colored organic vegetables
-Fresh organic fruits
-Spices and Herbs – all varieties, especially turmeric and ginger. Try to use spices on every meal, especially cayenne.
-Green tea – although unfortunately, you should avoid those from Japan due to the recent nuclear disaster.
-Pastured poultry
-Olive oil, avocado oil, macadamia oil and coconut oil -Green, leafy vegetables
-Raw nuts and seeds (avoid those that have been commercially roasted as they typically contain pro-inflammatory seed oils like cottonseed oil or peanut oil)
In addition to avoiding pro-inflammatory foods and filling your plate with the foods and nutrients that slash inflammation, be sure to:
-Maintain a healthy weight. There’s no question about it, you need to maintain your ideal body weight to protect your health.
-Get better sleep. Have a minimum of 7 to 9 hours of sleep to ensure optimal health.
-Relax to lower stress. Find time to relax your mind and ease your body from all tension.
-Exercise regularly. It is recommended for people to exercise for at least 30 minutes, three times a week.
-Take Fish Oil supplements. If they give you a “fish burp” first try this: keep the bottle in the fridge as the cold could keep fish burps from happening. If it continues, then purchase a higher quality of fish oil capsules and always keep them refrigerated.
By following this simple protocol, you can dramatically reduce the inflammation in your body… and lower your risk for every chronic disease.
