Dear Dewey’s Daily Cup readers,
I think just 2 more days and we will be blessed to have Dewey back with us @ KKIM and serving us in the Cup! Today the Lord led me to share a short writing from my new book The Train Whistle. This is one of my favorite Chapters in the book, because in this Chapter can be found “the end of the book” in which God promised me in the beginning: God said, “I will give you the beginning, the end and I will be with you through it all.” God was faithful in teaching me for 10 years through the writing of this book and when I heard him say it was finished, it was!
Special Note- I encourage you to listen to KKIM today! NM News & Views 4:25-5:11pm MT with Pastor Charlie Rizzo & Pastor Mark Tross- wrote a book that’s now out of print about a revival at his church in New Milford, NJ, where I was saved 30 years ago. Isn’t that amazing! What a wonderful reminder of God’s power and Grace.
Just a special note about The Train Whistle, Sounding the Call of God’s Love, by Karen Rowe
· The Beginning of “The Train Whistle, Sounding the Call of God’s Love” [is found on pages
79-81] These
are the 1st 2 pages ever written for this book and I knew they were God inspired that very day!
· The End of “The Train Whistle” [is found on pages 146-148] and entitled: How Far Is It from the East to the West? This was actually written during the last editing phase just days before the final submittal to the publisher to begin the actual publication process!
· “The end” of the book is located in mist of the middle of the book and submerged in the Chapter on Hope, entitled, “Hope is Authentic and Living [Pages 145-171];” and leads in to one of my favorite parts of The Train Whistle, “Hope Like Daniel and His Three Friends.”
So, Just to share what was on my heart to say about this Chapter in the book, but Today, The Lord has lead me to share from this “hope chapter” in The Train Whistle: The Great Reveal (Page 153).
I hope this is a blessing to you!
The Great Reveal
Every year I watch for my peony’s great reveal in the spring. This year, I took pictures of its birth, so to speak. First, my family and I watched the red stems pop out of the ground at just the right time in such a way that Christ comes in our life at just the right time. Then we watched the stems grow as they uncurled from a root that had been hidden all of this time. Christ is with us in a similar way. Jesus is with you, waiting for you to look toward the root of God’s love to find him. God purposed Jesus to be our vine who connects us to life with God. From Jesus, we branch and reveal the blooms of God’s love in our life as we reveal the fruit of the spirit, “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23), in our lives.
Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
John 15:4
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23
We can see the power of God best working in our lives when love overpowers our sinful nature that many times wants to oppose kindness, patience, gentleness, and self-control, which are the fruit of God’s pure and perfect love. It is a miracle to watch a peony defy the odds and burst out of the ground, and it is a miracle to experience peace and joy in the midst of a conflict.
Connected to Jesus with our minds, bodies, and spirits, God will transform our lives like God raises that buried peony bulb from the ground to grow into a beautiful plant. A peony does not think about it—it just performs in the midst of the miracle that it is made to be. We too need to quit thinking so much and just perform as the miracle that God made us to be. What if the peony thought, Today is a little too cold, and put off today for what may be easier tomorrow? What if the peony thought, The ground is awfully hard, and I am buried so deep? If the peony looked at its odds, it would never burst through the surface of the earth to shine for God’s glory alone. However, when we see what God has done with his creative hand, it is a beautiful miracle to experience. You are wonderfully and fearfully made by God to live well with God.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Psalm 139:14
Nothing is too hard for God, and he has had you on his mind all this time. As God leads by his righteousness, we can follow Jesus and “remain in step with the spirit” (Galatians 5:25) with peace from God that assures us that we are near to God
We too, like the peony, will go through dormant times in which we are being prepared for the next season. Don’t give up. Never tire of doing the right thing and always trust and remain in your faith. Stay focused on performing for God in all things. God has already supplied our enrichment and strength inside of us. Remain in Jesus. We are more equipped than that peony to flourish for God. We are never alone, God is always near, and even when it feels like God is taking a nap, he never sleeps. Rest in the Lord until you can see what God already knows. Praise God to experience his peace.
Even if life appears grim, praise God, who knows what his root in you can do. God is preparing you for something great and something better than you have ever known. In the dormant season, we only have the hope to see the peony that we know is there. In the dormant season of our lives, remain in your hope with Jesus expecting to see great things from God.
As we watched my peony erupt from the ground, we were literally watching a miracle from God. Just like we believe that God gives the sun, rain, soil, and nourishment to transform a bulb and grow it into a plant, we must believe that God has given us Jesus, The Holy Spirit, and the holy written Word to transform a believer who will apply his word to our life. Love does not control—love gives us the freedom to choose. We must mix our faith with God’s Word so it will be a benefit to us.
My peony is in full bloom at the time that I write this. Through scripture, believe you have new life available to you when you just turn to him and learn the truth that God loves you so much and has sent you his Son so that you shall not perish but have everlasting life:
The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the Lord blows on them. Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall but the word of our God stands forever.
Isaiah 40:7-8
Like closing your eyes and not seeing the stars, then walking away from the majestic beauty and truth in your hope; Ignoring the truth is like swimming away from your one rescue boat because you don’t understand it is there to save you. Fearing the truth is like remaining in captivity for fear of the unknown in freedom. The truth gives us knowledge from God that is greater than all the stars in heaven.
Someone without knowledge can look at the ground of my winter brown yard and tell me there is no life left for the spring; however, I know all the life I will see in the spring because I have knowledge of what is hidden in my ground. The life that I know exists is multiplied and growing, even when I cannot see it, but by faith I know. Never give up hope. God is at work doing great things for you, even when you cannot see.
If there was no hope for us, God would not bother with us. If there was no danger in sin, God would leave us alone. Get to know God and find out how faithful he is. Perseverance is vital and is a necessary path to reach higher virtues in our lives with God.
Perseverance is not the end—it is the beginning of something new and better.
Throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles; run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right (powerful) hand of God; taking his rightful, called and authorized position with God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Hebrews 12:1-3 (see also Hebrews 12:7-11)
The peony does not talk back, sin, or deny the truth about God, but we do. God cares for us with the same tender hand with which he cares for all living things. The truth is, God knows who we are, but he sees us through Jesus. God remembers that we are wonderfully made, and he sees us with his forgiving and loving eyes because of who God is, not because of who we are. God just loves us, pure and simple. How can we deny Jesus and ignore God’s love notes to us that we find in the written Word of God?
I have nothing to gain by manipulating your belief, and that is not the goal of this book. The Train Whistle is a book pointing to a greater book and one great God who sent his one and only Son for us. The truth needs no manipulation because it has nothing to hide. The truth is hidden in Jesus for us to find for our own benefit. We should not run in fear of the truth that is intended to bring us knowledge of life and love with God.
God is molding our hard hearts to learn that his way really works better than our own ideas of how to best suit ourselves. I once asked God,“I couldn’t handle knowing tomorrow, could I?”But God can. God knows all our tomorrows and sees us in our today. By the time that we get tomorrow, we will see what God knows today. Trust God, for he is faithful, all-knowing, powerful, and wise.
Revelation knowledge: Don’t worry about yesterday, Shed guilt & simply repent and learn from your mistakes; don’t fret about tomorrow, God’s got that covered! Today is a good day to enjoy a brand New day that God has called Today!
Be blessed in all you do in your comings and your goings … Jesus smiles to you, so smile, because Jesus loves you too! In Jesus’ precious name, amen.
Love in Christ,
Karen Rowe …

Prayer request-
Dearest Dewey…
Phil and Linda Oliveira have founded The Freedom In Music Project, which ministers to, andprovides musical instruments for, the 15 or so long-term youth detention centers in Abq.
Phil, a minister and long-time musician himself, has made it his mission to use music to help these kids find hope, a higher purpose and, through Phil and Linda’s generous ministry, these kids can build a more Christ-centered life for themselves – especially after leaving the detention centers.
To fund their ministry, Phil and Linda have organized a fun benefit concert featuring local musicians this Saturday, August 25th, at the Kimo Theater. The Freedom In Music Project is finalizing their non-profit 501c3 status, so my company is helping promote their benefit concert free of charge as a Community Affairs event. But despite this and Phil and Linda’s diligent efforts, ticket sales are moving slowly. As such, I thought perhaps I could offer yet one more lifeline of support – the power of prayer.
It is my hope that in sharing their story with your blessed band of powerful Prayer Warriors, we can together, appeal for Divine Assistance for this very worthy cause to help troubled youth right here in New Mexico.
It occurred to me that we might ask our generous community to support Phil and Linda’s mission with a prayer for a successful event on Saturday so they may continue to bless the kids they are fighting so hard to save, and continue to raise awareness within the community.
For easy reference, The Freedom In Music Project Benefit Concert and silent auction are scheduled for this Saturday, August 25th at 6:30 starting with The Memphis P. Tails followed by brief presentations by members and supporters of the organization. Then the show closes with a great Classic Rock jam session with Big Moe And The Philtones, (including Phil) and several great local musicians! Phil and Linda have secured some amazing prizes for the auction and raffle, including a guitar autographed by Kenny Wayne Shepherd, a Fender ‘Squire’ Stratocaster Guitar, ‘Breaking Bad’ memorabilia autographed by the cast and a variety of other items!
You can find more info on their website at http://www.thefreedominmusicproject.com/index.html (select ‘Fund Raising Events And Announcements’ from menu at top of page).
Dewey, if it’s not too much trouble, I would humbly request a prayer for assistance and support for these lovely people and their ministry. I had no idea how serious and far reaching drug abuse is amongst our community’s teens. Phil and Linda are trying to do something about that while seeking out local solutions. If anyone is interested in purchasing tickets to this event, they may do so online at the Kimo website, www.cabq.gov/culturalservices/kimo . Tickets are only $12.
However, a simple, heart-felt prayer for the success of Saturday’s benefit concert would be so humbly and gratefully welcome. After all, Phil and Linda have undertaken the most honorable of Christian missions, the saving of lost souls.
The least we can do is bolster and support them with earnest prayer on their behalf.
Dewey, thank you in advance for whatever wisdom you can offer. I do know God works so powerfully through you. I am grateful for your influence on my life and that of my family. God bless you and your own ministry, Dewey, now and always. I am here to support you as well, so please stay in touch. (Call/email me with questions.)
In the meantime, thanks again and God bless.

From Dr. Joe’s Medical Bag
Iodine is so important and you may run low if you swim in chlorinated swimming pools, drink certain beverages or brush your teeth with typical toothpaste.
Iodine is one of the components that helps make thyroid hormone. It starts out as thyroxine or T4 for short. The “4” refers to the number of iodine molecules bound on to the “T” which stands for tyrosine. Thyroid hormone is just iodine and tyrosine glued together. At some point, one of the iodine molecules leave, and you’re left with T3 which is your body’s fuel. T3 wakes you up and burns fat, it makes you pretty. Doctors can’t agree on what the best range is. I think you’ll feel well if your T3 is between 3.5 – 4.2.
The thyroid gland is the only part of the body that has cells capable of absorbing iodine, which it gets from food, iodized salt, seaweed but it doesn’t get nearly enough. The American Thyroid Association reported that approximately 40% of the world’s population remains at risk for iodine deficiency. Part of the problem is that foods grown in mineral-deficient soils are far less nutritious. Bring in chemicals called halides such as fluorine, chlorine and bromine which are annoying bullies and race for the same spot on the cell that iodine does, the bullies win.
Who are the bullies? For example, a very popular sports electrolyte drink contains bromine, your pool and Jacuzzi contain chlorine and most toothpaste contains fluoride. It’s not any one punch, it’s the cumulative effect. You know how you love that new car smell? Some of it is off-gassing of bromine, and you’re breathing it in. Your thyroid gets upset.
These bully halides are drug muggers of your iodine; they could cause deficiency. This increases your risk for becoming hypothyroid: Hair loss, depression, always feeling cold, weight gain, brittle fingernails, constipation, pale, dry skin and fatigue which is constant and you seem to wake up only after that triple latte caffeine shot.
Iodine deficiency is not always the only cause for hypothyroidism. Your doctor can test you so don’t take iodine indiscriminately because it can cause hyperthyroidism and nodules. I only recommend supplements that contain both “iodine” and “iodide” because different tissues of the body respond better to certain forms of Iodine. The thyroid gland loves iodide while the breasts and prostate crave iodine. That’s why I recommend either I-throid (not misspelled) capsules, or Iodoral tablets (these tablets contain pharmaceutical glaze in case you’re sensitive). Health food stores usually have them or they can order either of these for you, or you can buy online. I don’t like liquid iodine supplements, they usually taste unpleasant and I’m never sure of consistency from drop to drop.
