Dear family of our Lord Jesus Christ,
God Bless you for stopping by for a CUP!
Jesus the Good Shepherd – The Origin
Jesus the good shepherd is referenced in the book of John, chapter 10. In His own words, Jesus tells us in verse 11: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” And in verses 14-15: “I am the good shepherd. I know my own sheep, and they know me just as my Father knows me and I know my Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep.”
Jesus the Good Shepherd – The Meaning
Jesus is the good shepherd to His believers just as the shepherds were of their livestock. A shepherd tended his flock day and night. He would gather the sheep into a sheepfold at night for their protection. The sheepfold was a pen, a cave, or an area backed by stone walls. Since there were no doors, the shepherd would often sleep or sit in the opening, ready to guard his sheep from harm.
Being different than a hired keeper who might run away in the face of danger, the flock belonged to the shepherd who would stay and defend them. He had a genuine loving concern for what belonged to him. In chapter 10, Jesus illustrates how the shepherd cares for his flock, protecting them from weather, thieves, and predatory animals. He loved and shielded them and if necessary, he would lay down his life for them.
Jesus is that loving protector and caretaker for His flock. Ezekiel 34 foretold of the Messiah who would, like a true shepherd, come to caringly keep God’s people. It was a loving message of the coming Christ, the good shepherd.
John 10 tells us how thieves and wolves come to destroy the sheep. But the good shepherd is there to save them. These verses tell us that though Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy God’s people (verse 10). Jesus is there to protect, love, and save us from destruction giving us eternal life. Jesus came not to merely be the hired keeper but came as the one (the only one), who was and is, completely committed to us — even to His own death and resurrection. Jesus is the good shepherd who lay down His physical life for you and me.
Jesus the good shepherd – The Purpose
Jesus the good shepherd’s purpose is to give life and protect from destruction. You may be asking yourself why Jesus needed to give His life for our protection. We all have sinned! By our sin, we are lost to the eternal life God has for us. We will not enter heaven if we don’t accept Jesus the good shepherd. Jesus’ blood was shed as payment for our sins. But He was resurrected; He lives as our shepherd today!
When we accept this gift, when we believe that He did this for us, we are saved from paying the debt ourselves. Romans 6:23 says: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” John 6 says that Jesus is the true bread from heaven. Verse 33says, “The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” Have you accepted the life He offers?
Many attended the Prayer service for the Greg Griego family last night at Calvary of Albuquerque………
Even if we had an explanation for what happened, that’s not going to heal our broken hearts,”Pastor Skip Heitzig said. “We don’t need reasons, we need resources and that’s where God comes in.”
The crowd saw some of Greg Griego’s work as a chaplain at the Metropolitan Detention Center. They also heard from a former member of Griego’s “God Pod” in the county jail.
“He reminds me of Paul the Apostle, the sent one. Every time I saw Greg he was on the move. Just sent out. Love you brother,” Ivan Newman said.
“What should our attitude be? For justice? Yes. But for mercy? Yes. And keep in mind what Greg Griego and his family’s ministry was,” Heitzig said. “He was all about going to the prison house and visiting the prisoner and assuring the prisoner that no matter what you have done there is a possibility of forgiveness and restoration.”
Godly Wise words from Pastor Heitzig.

I love this reply by Dear, Dear friend Tom Johnson as to me thanking him for the lessons he has taught me……..
Dewey,
Thanks for your generous statements. Credit does not belong to me – as the name of your ministry says. I love the scripture from Luke about Jesus’ youth – he began as a baby in Bethlehem and then grew mentally, physically, spiritually and socially.
God Bless you Tom! We love you and then this scripture came to me………
He who says he abides in [Jesus] ought himself also to walk just as He walked. —1 John 2:6

Here is an AWESOME letter from Dear, Dear friend Sonja who I have reconnected with after some 35 years, Sonja and I were classmates at Windom High School and graduated in 1974, she now lives in Arizona! Sonja shares today on breast cancer, and sent this as we are all praying for Karen Rowe who undergoes surgery today.
Good Morning Friend!
Thanks for the update, even though I don’t know Karen…..God has put her on my heart and I have been praying for her.
Numerous women surrounded me with love and support when I was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer….ones I had never even met. The experience changed my life and I learned so much by having breast cancer and know how important it is to always have hope! My doctor spoke life into me while going through treatment and said this will all be in your rearview mirrror soon. I would like to send her a mirror that I embellish with pink ribbons and letters to make it a rearview mirror…it is to remind her of the hope she has in Jesus. He will get her through this!
In gratitude,
Sonja
God Bless you Sonja for sharing! I am thankful when others will share about the GREATNESS OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST!!!!!!
Yesterday on the CUP we talked about the Favor of God…..Pastor Brenton Franks a Dear, Dear friend of mine posted this yesterday on his facebook……you reap what you sow………
It came as rather a surprise. I had gone out to a brunch with my family over the Christmas/New Year’s Holidays and as we were finishing up I was waiting for the check. The waitress came by and said she didn’t have a check for me because someone had paid the check for me. I asked who, and she said they wanted to remain anonymous. Honestly, I was surprised and a little taken back. I looked around the room but didn’t know who had done this for me.
This set me to thinking about blessings. God’s blessings come in many different shapes and forms. For example, a few days earlier I had to take one of my vehicles in for repairs. Sadly, it took three trips to the dealership for them to figure out the problem, but they loaned me a car…for free… on two different occasions. I drove their vehicles for over a week at no cost…another blessing! But, it doesn’t stop there. I had another vehicle go in for several hundreds of dollars of repairs…all covered under warranty. There was no cost to me. I took one of my kids to buy shoes (nice name brand shoes) and they got them for pennies on the dollar because of coupons that we had been blessed with that expired that same day. God continues to be faithful to me over and over, but this shouldn’t come as a surprise because this is God’s promise to His people when they give to Him. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give a he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.
Thank you Pastor Brenton……….
The blessing and favor of God are synonymous.
The grace of God and favor of God are also synonymous.
Favor is like being dipped in honey so that the blessings of God
stick to us.
Favor is the aligning of His blessing and grace on us that
brings a supernatural influence into our lives and those
around us
Job 4:8 ESV /
As I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap the same.
Luke 6:38 ESV /
Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

January 24, 2013. When you are ready, so am I. The truth is that I can do for you more in one day than you can do for yourself in a lifetime. Stop now and turn around. You have missed some important stops along the way, not knowing what you were doing. Nothing is lost. All I have ever intended is still on the horizon. My plan and destiny for you goes beyond your ideas and plans. My plans are to pour out My Spirit upon you in new and more powerful ways now. Earlier, you could not have survived nor endured what I intended. But now you can if you will but stop and turn around. Get your heart and notepad ready! Let’s go.
Proverbs 1:23 (MSG) “About face! I can revise your life. Look, I’m ready to pour out my spirit on you; I’m ready to tell you all I know.” Ras Robinson

January 24, 2013. You’re feeling alone, like you are not connected. It’s causing strange emotions. Even though you feel this way… you are connected and you aren’t alone. These emotions arise from similar circumstances when you were a child. Your mind doesn’t remember everything but your heart does. Instead of keeping these feelings, go get with those you are actually close to in spirit. You don’t have to reveal all you are going through, but connecting with others keeps these emotions from being overwhelming. Nip them in the bud now and these feelings will dissipate. When you were a child there was nothing you could do, but now you can. I am with you.
1 Corinthians 13:11 (NASB) “When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things.” Bev Robinson

January 24, 2013. You’ve eagerly anticipated getting hold of something someone has and when the time came you’ve were unprepared to receive it. Rehearse in your mind what you will say and what you will do when the opportunity arises. You cannot afford or allow any time delay. In your heart of hearts you have awesome dreams and aspirations. Draw in close to individuals who have the attributes you appreciate. Pay close attention to how they move and imitate them. Your opening is usually just one footstep away. Be ready to stride into your destiny. Your goals and ambitions were put in your heart by Me. Keep focused on Me.
2 Kings 2:9-10 (NASB) “When they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.”
He said, “You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so.” Kevin Robinson
